Tech for Learning Round Two

The second course starts tomorrow night. I’m disappointed that more internal staff aren’t doing the course this year, but I understand that having to find £200 to part self-fund is a big ask in these financially challenging times.

But I am excited to have some external candidates this year. I think it will bring a different perspective to the course.

The interviews last week highlighted the variety of experiences of everyone, in terms of subject specialism and experience with technology. The themes that came from the interview :

benefits: they talked about meeting students needs and interests, enjoyment and variety of lessons, keeping up to date with industry standards

limitations: unreliable technology.

reasons for doing the course: the keep up to date. To be ‘ahead’ of the students. To be more confident with exploring new technologies.

I am really excited to see how this course develops in comparison to the last course. I don’t think I will be able to predict which technologies individuals will ‘bond’ with, but I don’t think it will be the same ones as last year. At the dissemination event last year these were the technologies the group wanted to showcase:

  • Twitter
  • Google Drive/Sky Drive
  • Padlet
  • Lino.it
  • Socrative
  • sync.in
  • texttomindmap/Pinterest/QR Code/Facebook

At least there will be no Posterous Close Down to navigate this year, and we will start with using the wiki function on the VLE for their digital portfolio. I need to decide whether to empty out the WordPress blog to start again afresh, or whether to build on the posts from the last course.
